Two of the best massachusetts metal bands with new albums

Last time, we talked about some of the best metal coming out of Massachusetts. The response was huge, so we're back with two more local heavyweights who just dropped killer new records. These aren't just new albums, they're sonic assaults that prove our scene is alive and thriving.

Don't just read about 'em, hear this for yourself. Hit the link below to our YouTube channel for clips and the full breakdown!

Massachusetts Metal Band 1: Innumerable Forms – Pain Effulgence (Profound Lore)

If you're looking for a record that feels like a tomb collapsing in on itself, you've found it. Innumerable Forms delivers a death/doom masterclass with Pain Effulgence. This album lurches between bone-rattling riffs and huge, slow-burn melodies, creating a soundscape that’s both suffocating and strangely beautiful.

Think of the cave-rattling intensity of Spectral Voice or Mortiferum mixed with the gloom of early Finnish death metal—all killer, no filler. It’s modern death metal with a towering, doomed atmosphere that feels absolutely massive. For a taste of the pure crushing power, check out "Impulse" and the title track.

Massachusetts Metal Band 2: Ancient Death – Ego Dissolution (Profound Lore)

Our local homies in Ancient Death have reinvigorated what American death metal can (and should) sound like. Their debut, Ego Dissolution, is a wild ride that merges old-school technical death metal with mind-bending atmospheres.

These guys (and gal) are doing what bands like Death, Morbid Angel, and Monstrosity did for the scene back in the day: they're pushing boundaries by expanding old ones. On the surface, it might seem like just another old-school death metal (OSDM) record, but as the album progresses and your ego dissolves, you'll realize this is something entirely new.

This is New School Death Metal, baby. They take all the violence and brutality of our favorite '90s bands and inject it with harsh female vocals, uncanny musicianship, and intelligent composition. Beyond the headbanging riffs, the album explores themes of grief, hope, and inner peace—a welcome departure from typical death metal tropes. Ego Dissolution is a highly impressive debut that deserves to be on your radar immediately.
